Common questions
Good to know.
A few answers to help you keep things simple.
Read our privacy policyDoes Slep detect when I fall asleep?
No. Slep is a manual sleep journal. It calculates the time between the bedtime and wake-up time you enter. It doesn’t detect sleep stages, measure sleep quality, record sound, or automatically subtract time spent awake.
Do I need to leave the app open overnight?
No. Once your session has started, you can lock your phone or close Slep. Your start time is saved on your device. Open the app and tap Wake Up when you’re ready to finish.
Slep doesn’t need to keep your screen on or run a timer in the background.
What if I forget to start or end a session?
To add a missed entry, open History and tap +, then enter your bedtime and wake-up time. If you forgot to end a session, finish it and edit the saved entry to reflect when you actually woke up.
Sessions longer than 24 hours prompt you to check the times before saving.
Can I change or delete an entry?
Tap an entry in History to edit its times, then choose Save Changes. To delete it, swipe left and choose Delete. You’ll be asked to confirm.
If you started a session by mistake, choose Discard Session on the Sleep screen.
How are daily totals and weekly averages calculated?
A completed session belongs to the day you woke up, using your phone’s current time zone. For example, a session from Monday night to Tuesday morning counts toward Tuesday.
- Today’s Sleep adds up all sessions completed today, including naps.
- Daily Average averages the daily totals on days with entries in the last seven days. A day without an entry is not treated as zero hours of sleep.
- Longest Sleep is your longest single completed session in that period, not a sleep-quality score.
- Goal Met compares the number of days that meet your current goal with the number of days you logged.
Sessions still in progress aren’t included in completed totals.
Can I record naps and change my sleep goal?
Yes. You can record more than one session per day, as long as their times don’t overlap. Open Settings → Sleep Goal to adjust your target between 6 and 12 hours in 30-minute steps.
The default is 8 hours. This is a personal tracking target, not a medical recommendation. Changing it updates goal comparisons without changing your entries.
What happens to entries older than seven days?
They stay on your device until you delete them. Choose All Sessions in History to view older entries. The chart and summary still show the most recent seven days.
Are my records backed up or synced?
Slep doesn’t offer cloud sync, export, or a recovery service. Sleep-record files are stored locally and excluded from standard device backups. Preferences may be handled separately by iOS.
Deleting the app removes its local records. Offloading the app may retain its documents and data. We can’t recover records after deletion or device loss, or guarantee that they will transfer to a new phone.
How do I erase my sleep data?
Open Settings → Erase All Data and confirm. This removes completed entries and the current session, and resets your sleep goal. Your accepted terms version is retained, so you won’t be asked to accept the same terms again.
Deleting sleep entries cannot be undone. If you have emailed support, your correspondence is separate from the data stored in the app; contact us about that information.
What if an entry won’t save?
Check that the wake-up time is after bedtime, neither time is in the future, and the session doesn’t overlap another entry. If Slep reports a storage problem, keep the app installed and try again. Don’t delete the app as a troubleshooting step if you want to keep your records.
If the issue continues, contact support with the error message and the steps that led to it.
